Foolish trust

All my life I've been thought that the only person I can trust is myself. Every show that I enjoyed, every encouraging words I received always had to be with have faith in your own strength and how by trusting in yourself you can achieve everything you want. Furthermore, everyday I received mails advocating this philosophy and probably millions of people around the world really believe in it. But God's opinion in this matter is completely different. Yesterday, as I read the Bible in my community group, one verse hit me deeply and surprisingly not only affected me, but all the people reunited picked out the same verse! And why this verse is so startling? Because it destroys the "trusting in yourself will make you successful" claim, which is one of the most beloved philosophies of our time. The verse:
Proverbs 28:26 - He who trust himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.

In God's eyes everyone who trust himself is a fool. Moreover in the same book is explained that fools are unsuccessful, troubled, ruined and detestable. Even now we think that being called a fool is an insult, so you can understand now why we were so shocked with this verse.

So, you will ask, what is the wisdom you must walk in order to be safe and wise? The same book tell us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Prv 9:10) and that God is the one who gives wisdom and understanding (Prv 2:6). Also God is the one who make our paths straight if we acknowledge him in all our ways (Prv 3:6). So we can conclude that you can only trust God and if you want to be wise, you should obey him. If you do so he promise to kept you safe and to guide you. He will also make you successful acording to His plans (remember it's not about your plans) . Finally, you can live confidently because the Creator of the universe is taking care of you!
